Cape Cod Writers Center Hosts Summer Conference

cape cod writers centerHYANNIS – The Cape Cod Writers Center Conference, one of the oldest broad-based writers’ conferences in the nation, presents a series of state-of-the-art courses and workshops at its 54th summer Conference.

The event takes place at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis on Thursday and runs until Sunday.

The conference features a faculty of 20 distinguished authors, poets, journalists and prize-winning writers and often attracts a 200 member audience.

“It’s open to people who are beginner writers, as well as people who have experience or have been published, and it’s meant to help them improve their literary skills and prepare for publication,” said Cape Cod Writers Center Executive Director Nancy Rubin Stuart.

The lunchtime keynote speaker for the event is Peter Abrahams, the Edgar-award winning author 35 novels whom Stephen King, called his “favorite American suspense novelist.”

Other prominent faculty for this year’s conference include Yale writing professor Adam Sexton and children’s book writer Lauren Mills.

Rubin Stuart said that they have courses in the conference that reflect the change that is happening in the publishing industry.

“We always are experiencing, those of us who write, what those changes are and we try to address and create courses that will go along with that,” said Robin Stuart.

Classes at the 2016 conference include a wide range of topics including social media promotion, writing for social change and writing magical characters.
