Cape Cod YMCA Marks 50th Anniversary

YMCA CAPE CODWEST BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod branch of the YMCA will host an event at their West Barnstable location Saturday to mark 50 year serving the region.

According to the organization’s President Stacie Peugh, they’ve been planning a benefit gala for nearly two years.

“We have 50 honorees that we will be highlighting,” she said. “The event honors our past, celebrates our impact and will provide investment for our future.”

The gala will feature a dinner, live and silent auctions and entertainment.

It will also include a “hall of history” walk-through, consisting of memorabilia and other artifacts from past campaigns and YMCA events.

The West Barnstable chapter began in a small office above Puritan clothing shop in Hyannis before moving to its current location.

Peugh said the Cape Cod chapter has done so much more for the region than providing swimming lessons; a service she did call important for a seaside community to have access to.

“We want people to know that it doesn’t matter whether you think you can afford it or not, we raise charitable dollars so that we never turn anyone away due to their inability to pay,” Peugh said.

She said the organization is currently raising funds to provide further studies for a possible Falmouth location.
