Cape Conservatory Plans Nauset Schools Fundraiser

Jazz2In a fundraiser for the Nauset Public Schools music programs, the Cape Conservatory presents jazz vocalist Shawnn Monteiro in concert with the Conservatory Jazz Big Band.

Whether in the intimacy of a club date or the glitter of a Las Vegas showroom, Monteiro has delighted audiences from across the USA and Europe with her highly-popular jazz repertoire laced with blues-inflected improvisations.

Evident in Monteiro’s liveliness of lyrical phrasing and intermittent scat variations are the influences of Carmen McRae and Sarah Vaughan, from whom she draws that inner core of creative energy.

Monteiro’s father was the late renowned bassist Jimmy Woode, veteran of the Duke Ellington band.

On April 2 at 10 a.m., the Cape Conservatory presents two special events with Monteiro:  a morning masterclass for high school and adult students from across the Cape, along with a concert later that evening.

For the masterclass, the Conservatory has lined up six participants to work with Monteiro on the essence & intricacies of jazz singing.

Monteiro has taught masterclasses throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, and Dubai, and she is an adjunct Professor in Jazz Vocals at both the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, CT and the Rhode Island College in Providence.
