Cape Leaguer to Start Against Pedro Martinez in Charity Game

CAMBRIDGE – Harwich Mariners closer Teddy Rodliff will be one of the starting pitchers in a well-known charity baseball game Thursday.

The other starter is a baseball legend.

Rodliff will face off against Red Sox great Pedro Martinez in the 24th Oldtime Baseball Game, an annual fundraiser spearheaded by longtime Boston sportswriter Steve Buckley.

Rodliff, a Quincy native, appeared in 14 games for the Mariners this summer, recording 13 strikeouts with a 3.66 ERA.

Thursday’s event will serve as a fundraiser for ALS research and NESN videographer John Martin, who is battling the disease.

The Oldtime Baseball Game will be played at St. Peter’s Field in Cambridge. As in years past, players will wear throwback flannel uniforms.

Pregame ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. Thursday.
