Cape Light Compact to Offer Money for Recycling Old Dehumidifiers

BARNSTABLE – The Cape Light Compact is partnering with local appliance stores on Cape Cod to offer residential electric customers a $30 rebate for recycling old, working dehumidifiers.

To be eligible, customers must turn in a dehumidifier at one of three events and only two dehumidifiers per residential electric account will receive a rebate.

The events will be held on Friday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mid-Cape Home Centers in South Dennis, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crane Appliance in East Falmouth and June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crane Appliance in Orleans.

“Not only will replacing these old appliances save on household energy consumption, but residents will be able to dispose of these bulky appliances in an environmentally responsible way,” said Maggie Downey of Cape Light Compact.

The Compact says that recycling old dehumidifiers both ensures the refrigerant is safely handled, preventing it from polluting the ground and air, and keeps recyclable metal and plastic out of landfills.

As an added benefit, customers who choose to purchase a new ENERGY STAR certified dehumidifier may be eligible for an additional $30 rebate if they purchase a qualifying unit by December 31, 2017.
