Cape Residential Building Activity Sees Slight Dip in March

CENTERVILLE – Residential building activity saw a slight dip on Cape Cod in March, according to the latest statistics made available by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

383 building permits were issued in Barnstable County in March, down 7 from last year. The total value of the work done was $38.5 million, down from nearly $44 million in March of 2017.

Remodeling projects represented the large majority of residential building on the Cape last month. There were 347 remodeling permits issued, 3 more than last year.

The average remodeling cost last month was $60,404. In March 2017, the average cost was $71,017. The total value of the projects was just under $21 million, down $3.4 million from 2017.

The average cost of new construction projects on Cape Cod was $491,486, up from $381,492 last year. The total amount spent on new construction in March was $17.6 million, up from $15.6 million last year.

There were 36 new construction projects in Barnstable County in March 2018, compared to 41 in March 2017.
