WEST YARMOUTH – The Cape Cod and Islands Council of Boy Scouts of America will hold its annual Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner later this month.
The Distinguished Citizen award will be presented to Lt. Col. Enoch Woodhouse II who grew up in Roxbury and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps all-black segregated unit known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
Woodhouse was honored for his distinguished service during his time with the 332 Fighter Wing at Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama. He later served as Financial Officer for the 477th Bombardment Group at Lockbourne Air Field in Ohio and was discharged from active duty in 1949.
Woodhouse then joined the Air Force Reserves and attended Yale University and Boston University Law School, earning a law degree in 1956.
In addition to his military service, he practiced law privately for 40 years and has served with the State Department and the City of Boston.
The 43 young men who earned the rank of Eagle Scout this year will also be honored for distinguished community service.
