MASHPEE – Most high school students spend their April vacation relaxing but a group of 17 Cape Cod students will take a mission trip to one of the poorest parts of the country.

The students, who are all Youth Ministry members from the Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee, will visit Wheeling, West Virginia, a region of Appalachia characterized by poverty.

The students will participate in numerous activities and projects from April 17 to 23 that include light construction, painting, cooking, gardening, serving meals and operating a thrift shop.

A special pasta dinner fundraiser for the trip will be held on Saturday, November 14 at 5 p.m. at the Christ the King Parish Hall.

Tickets for the dinner are $10 for an individual and $25 for a family.

There will also be a raffle along with items up for auction.

The students represent several area schools including Mashpee High School, Barnstable High School, Saint John Paul II School, Upper Cape Tech, Cape Cod Community College Dual Enrollment, Sturgis East and Sturgis West.
