MARSTONS MILLS — A group of volunteers from the Cape Symphony & Conservatory teamed up to help with a Habitat for Humanity build project in Marstons Mills on Tuesday.

Twelve individuals from the organization partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod to help shingle the homes being built by the non-profit organization.

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod Executive Director Vikki Goldsmith said that at the same time as the Marstons Mills build project, the organization was also raising the walls on a Dennis home they had started building.

“This a wonderful day for us. Here we have the Cape Cod Symphony volunteering with us. We love getting all different people and organizations and so forth from the community grabbing the opportunity to put a hand on these homes and to make a difference in the local community. We’re very thrilled to have the symphony here today,” Goldsmith said.

The homes are located on Dickinson Drive in Marstons Mills. Cape Symphony & Conservatory staff were on-site from 8:00 a.m. until around noon.

Symphony Conductor Jung Ho Pak says the volunteer work with Habitat is an extension of what he does on stage.

“I know that sounds so strange. How can conducting an orchestra have any relationship to building a house? I think what we basically we do is feed our community with joy, beauty and love, and necessities like housing are an extension of that. Feeding the soul and having a home to live in also feeds the soul,” Ho Pak explained.

“Everyone has an expertise. Someone plays trumpet or someone plays the oboe or violin. All of them come together to create a beautiful event and a beautiful result. That’s exactly what a house is: plumbers, carpenters and electricians all coming together to produce a singular, unforgettable event,” Pak said.

Habitat for Humanity has developed 135 homes in all 15 towns on the Cape. The organization invites people of all backgrounds to build homes alongside their future owners.
