Cape Symphony Concert to Feature Rodgers & Hammerstein Favorites

HYANNIS – The Cape Symphony will perform a special concert next month that pays tribute to arguably the most successful duo in Broadway musical history – Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Collectively, the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein have earned 42 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards, two Pulitzer Prizes, two Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards.

Cape Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak said the concert is an opportunity to hear a collection of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most successful songs from musicals like “Oklahoma,” “Carousel” and “Sound of Music” in one performance.

Bostonian and lifelong Cape Cod summer resident Peter Mansfield will serve as guest conductor for the performance.

Mansfield, who is a professor at the Boston Conservatory, will man the podium for “People Say We’re In Love,” from “Oklahoma;” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” from “Carousel;” “South Pacific’s” “Some Enchanted Evening;” “Shall We Dance,” from “The King and I;” “My Favorite Things,” from “Sound of Music;” among many others.

“The Very Best of Rodgers & Hammerstein” is Saturday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis.
