HYANNIS – The Cape Symphony 2016|2017 Concert Season gets underway in a few weeks with two-time Grammy Award winner Mark O’Connor and his band.

The O’Connor Band featuring Mark O’Connor in Copland & O’Connor takes the Symphony stage September 10 and September 11.

The O’Connor Band featuring Mark O’Connor just released their debut album “Coming Home” earlier this month.

The group made their Grand Ole Opry debut earlier this year, and played the title song of that album, which was penned by Mark’s son, Forrest, a core member of the O’Connor Band.

This year’s visit to the Grand Ole Opry wasn’t a first for Mark, though.

The former child prodigy and national champion on the fiddle, guitar and mandolin performed on the legendary Nashville stage when he was just 12 years old.

On Cape Cod in September, Mark will be joined by his wife Maggie, Forrest and daughter-in-law Kate Lee for a truly unique interpretation of some of Aaron Copland’s Americana favorites, including Four Dances from Rodeo and “Olympic Reel.”

The Cape Symphony will also present some of O’Connor’s originals, including an excerpt from an improvisational concerto.

Also on the program is Robert Wendel’s moving piece “Towers of Light,” in recognition of the 15th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11.
