Cape Symphony to Welcome Legendary Songwriter New Year’s Day

BARNSTABLE –  A legendary songwriter is coming to Cape Cod on Monday.

He is the youngest person to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the only one who has won a Grammy for music, lyrics and orchestration.

And he’s headed to the Cape Symphony stage, at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis, to take part in their New Year’s Day party, and Artistic Director /Conductor Jung Ho Pak can’t wait.

“I always like to have it be a party in the sense of lots of surprises.  Every year we have someone I’ve wanted to meet or work with, and this year it’s Jimmy Webb!”

Webb is known for writing many hits, including “Up, Up and Away” and “MacArthur Park”, but he is best known for the songs he wrote for Glen Campbell.

“When it came to friendship, Glen was the real deal.  He spoke my name from ten thousand stages,” said Pak.

Campbell’s daughter Ashley will join Webb to sing some of the songs he wrote that helped make her father a legend.

Aside from their inspiring tribute, Pak says to expect an eclectic program:  “I have a very strong American twist and that’s where the pop music comes into it.  I want people to have fun, but by the time they leave the show, I want them to go ‘WOW’.”

Tickets for the show sold out before Christmas.
