HYANNIS – The Cape Symphony is diving deep into two of Mozart’s masterpieces in November in a first-ever Masterpiece concert.
The concert is a presentation of Mozart’s delightful “Eine kleine nachtmusik,” translated as “a little night music,” as well as his final work, the powerful and moving Requiem. Magnificent Mozart will feature Cambridge-based Musica Sacra and four guest soloists.
The highlight of the show, of course, is the playing of Requiem. Mozart began writing it in 1791 but died before he could finish it.
“There are very few composers in history that were as prolific at such an extremely high level as Mozart,” said Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. “We will perform two of Mozart’s beloved pieces, which are also polar opposites in terms of theme and emotion. These extremes remind us that Mozart was a true genius in his ability to accomplish both so masterfully.”
Pak will entertain the audience with the myths and realities surrounding Mozart’s most famous piece, including fascinating stories of other composers that tried to finish it themselves.
Another unique aspect of the concert is that the orchestra and chorus will be moved closer to the audience in an effort to break down the invisible “fourth wall” and make concert goers feel part of the music making process.
