CapeFLYER Free for Vets and Service Members

railroad crossingHYANNIS – The CapeFLYER is offering free service for veterans and active service members Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26.

The weekend train runs from Boston to Cape Cod from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.

“We are extremely happy to be able to show a small token of appreciation for the heroes who have risked all for our safety and liberty,” said Thomas Cahir, Cape Cod Regional Transit Administrator.

Veterans and service members must be dressed in uniform to receive the free fare.

The CapeFLYER’s Memorial Day hours run on the same schedule as normal weekend operations, leaving South Station, in Boston, at 8 a.m. and returning from Hyannis at 6:30 p.m.

The Cape train includes a special Gold Star Coach containing the names of 130 armed forces members from Massachusetts who lost their lives fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan.

CapeFLYER worked with MBTA and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail to set up the Gold Star Coach.
