CapeFLYER Ridership on Fourth of July Weekend Exceeds 2,000

HYANNIS – Over 2,000 people rode the CapeFLYER to and from Cape Cod over the holiday weekend, a record for the seasonal train.

The weekend service, which operates between the Cape and South Station in Boston, includes stops in Braintree, Brockton, Wareham and Buzzards Bay.

CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir said that the fourth of July represents the beginning of summer and they anticipate having busy weekends through Labor Day.

“The signs are that we’re going to have a successful year, we’ve been working the social media aspect very aggressively and fielding a lot of phone calls and making folks in the metropolitan Boston area aware of events on the Cape and of course the weather contributed greatly,” said Cahir.

The CapeFLYER train operates Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays and leaves South Station at 5:50 p.m. each day.

The train also offers a café car that sells food and drinks, including beer and wine.

“It’s really neat to see the genuine excitement that these people are expressing and we’re very pleased, we have 15 weeks of summer to make it work and so far every weekend has exceeded the previous year,” said Cahir.
