HYANNIS – The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority has kicked off their Youth Initiative to educate students Cape-wide about public transportation.
The new program was introduced at Barnstable High School last month where team members from both CCRTA’s administrative and operations staff prepared an interactive educational opportunity for students to learn more about the fixed route services the CCRTA offers.
At this event, The students could engage in a game of Jeopardy which included transit related questions regarding our services. Students used Cape Cod RTA’s riders guide to locate the answers; giving students the experience of using our guides to better understand our routes, fares, and other special services offered.
“Our staff had fun and students were genuinely interested in what we had to say,” said CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir.
“We handed out CCRTA travel bags and student bus passes to the various Jeopardy winners. I am hopeful we can duplicate this introduction to Cape Cod’s public transportation system to students in other school districts all across the Cape”.
In addition to the Jeopardy game, there were “selfie” photo booth opportunities, information on environmental benefits of public transportation, a flat-bed truck with a new bus engine and transmission and they were able to climb aboard one of our 35 seat Gillig buses.
This event was an opportunity to introduce the CCRTA’s safe, affordable and easily accessible public transportation services to over 200 students in the transit agencies ongoing effort to educate young people about their robust and efficient public transit opportunities.
