CDP to Offer Cape & Islands Green Workshop

HYANNIS – The Community Development Partnership will offer a Cape & Islands Green Workshop for local businesses Monday in Hyannis.

The 90-minute session will focus on how to reduce energy costs and conserve resources, including how “being green” is good for the bottom line.

“It provides education to encourage businesses to engage in sustainable business practices,” said Ann Robinson, the Chief Program Officer at CDP.

Topics include solid waste minimization, water and energy conservation, and how to market a green business.

“Everybody seems to be much more interested in trying to be ‘green’ now, and so we have found it is a good selling point for our businesses if they can show the public that they are making efforts to be as sustainable as they can be,” Robinson said.

CDP partners with Cape Light Compact to share their expertise about how to reduce energy consumption.

The workshop will also layout steps businesses can take to become Cape & Islands Green verified.

“We give them a checklist of a variety of measures they can take,” Robinson said.

After the workshop, the CDP professional team will be available to guide participants through the process of becoming Cape & Islands Green verified.

“Once they have gone through the whole checklist and been able to do as many of the things that they can, then we can verify that they are a green business and we list them as such, and they can market themselves as such,” Robinson said.

CDP hosts the workshop a few times per year.

“We typically wait until we are asked to do [the workshop],” Robinson said. “In this case we had four or five businesses who were interested in being verified.”

Space is still available. Businesses can register at the event or by contacting Pam Anderson at [email protected], or by calling 508-240-7873.

The cost is $75 for businesses with less than 10 employees.
