PROVINCETOWN – The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown is celebrating its 40th year of conducting research, rescuing marine animals and providing education programs.

The organization will be holding several events to celebrate the anniversary throughout the summer season.

A gala event will be held at Provincetown Town Hall on June 11 to show recognition to long-time members, friends and supporters of the center.

The gala will also honor co-founders Graham Giese and Charles “Stormy” Mayo, who, along with the late Barbara Mayo, turned the small operation into the lab, education and rescue organization that it is today.

The event will feature a gourmet dinner, wine and beer and guest speakers. All proceeds from the gala benefit the center’s work.

A birthday party will be held for the center on July 29 at the Bas Relief Park in Provincetown. The party, which is during the 6th annual Whale Week – a Celebration of the Sea, will include a dunk tank, Whale Olympics and more.

The center will also be holding three Sunset Whale Watch cruises on July 16 and 30 and August 20. The cruises will feature center scientists and staff and food and drinks while passengers watch for whales, dolphins, sea birds, seals and the sunset.

The trips are $120 and the proceeds support the center’s Humpback Whale Research program.
