CHAMP Homes ‘Bright Light Awards’ Presented

HARWICH –  CHAMP Homes announced Jill Scalise as one of the 2018 winners of the “Go Light the World” Bright Light Awards during an event Wednesday at the Wequassett Golf Club in Harwich.

Scalise currently serves as the Housing Coordinator in the town of Brewster and has been described as a steadfast advocate for those who have lived in the margins.

Adam Burnett, CHAMP Homes Executive Director said Scalise has “worked relentlessly for the dis-advantaged and those facing homelessness. From Boston, to Philadelphia, to Cape Cod, her light had illuminated the plight of those living in the shadows.”

Scalise is best known for her work with the chronically homeless to bring them from the streets into shelter and walks alongside them as they better their lives and live into sobriety.

During her acceptance speech, Scalise thanked everyone who made her award possible.

“Thank you to the many men and women, who have been a light for me, as we help to light one-another’s candles, and encourage each other,” she said.

Other Bright Light winners included nurse-advocate Michelle Aceto, Barnstable Police Sgt. Jen Ellis, Barnstable Police Officer Jason Sturgis and Living Stones Foundation co-founders David and Deb Quinones.

Paul Costa, a former CHAMP Homes client, was also recognized.

CHAMP Homes mission is to provide and maintain a safe, supportive and nurturing home environment for formerly homeless youth and adults; to offer spiritual counseling and life skills training to at risk individuals; and to continuously advocate for the neglected and abandoned people in our Cape Cod Community.
