Champ Homes Receives Grant from Cape Cod 5

HYANNIS – Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank has awarded a $4,000 grant to Champ Homes, a nonprofit that provides support and transitional housing for the housing insecure in the region.

Champ’s program provides life skills, mentoring, vocational opportunities, and self-advocacy for the homeless and near homeless living on Cape Cod.

Nearly 3,000 individuals have been served by the Champ Homes program since 1991.

In 2018, nearly half of the clients who moved on from the Champ Homes program successfully transitioned to independent living.

The program is unique to Cape Cod and strives to meet the individual needs of each client who seeks assistance.

The faith-based nonprofit provides supportive, sober, transitional housing to men and women, aged 18 or older, on the Cape who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness – many of whom are challenged by mental, physical or emotional disabilities, or are recovering from addiction.

Transitioning housing is an intermediate step between emergency shelters and permanent housing. It is more long-term, generally two years, and service intensive than homeless shelters.
