Chatham Coast Guard Auxiliary Launches Summer Lighthouse Tours

CHATHAM-  Members of the Chatham Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will once again offer free public tours of the iconic Chatham Lighthouse throughout the summer months.

During the tour, visitors will be welcomed to the light at the Coast Guard Station, receive a brief introduction and history of the structure, and can climb the 44 stairs and ladder to the top of the light for a panoramic view of the Chatham Bar and surrounding waters.

Guests will also be able to look into a decommissioned 44-foot rescue boat ‘CG 44301’ that was used by Coast Guardsmen at Station Chatham for search and rescue missions.

Since lighthouse tours were opened to the public 25 years ago, more than 90,000 visitors have taken the opportunity to view the inside of the famed beacon.

The lighthouse will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:

June 6, 16 and 17 (Chatham History Weekend), 20;

July 4, 11, 18, 25;
