Chatham Council on Aging to Host Accessory Dwelling Bylaw Forum

CHATHAM – The Chatham Council on Aging is hosting a free presentation and listening session to help explain the Accessory Dwelling Unit Bylaw proposed by town’s Planning Board.

Based on a Council on Aging Needs and Assessment Study from 2016, the Planning Board is currently drafting an amendment to the Protective Zoning Bylaw to create Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), or accessory apartments.

The ADUs encourage aging in place for seniors and creates new housing, all the while maintaining the character of single family neighborhoods.

The presentation and listening session are an opportunity for senior citizens of Chatham to speak with the Town’s Principal Planner and Planning Board Members to get a better understanding of the proposal and its surrounding laws, and to ask town officials any questions about the amendment.

The Council on Aging also encourages those attending to join them for a gourmet luncheon before the presentation.

The presentation begins at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24. It is free and open to all senior citizens in the Town of Chatham.
