Chatham Fishermen Seek Federal Fishing Disaster Funds

fishing boatCHATHAM – Massachusetts fishery officials met with fishermen in Chatham on Thursday, but the locals were not pleased.

Some members of the fishing community are disappointed about not receiving any funds in the first phase of the $33 million dollar federal fishery disaster aid program.

Now, state officials are working to determine how to allocate $8.2 million in aid funding.

Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance Policy Director Tom Dempsey says he hopes the state provides relief to those who haven’t gotten it yet.

No timetable has been given on when the state plans to allocate those funds.
