CHATHAM – The Chatham Board of Selectmen recently heard from DPW Director Tom Temple regarding the town’s readiness for severe winter weather.
He explained that there’s plenty of people and equipment ready to respond. “There’s approximately 32 people involved with this operation, of which 24 are private equipment operators, and eight are our own personnel.”
Selectman Amanda Love expressed concern that last year some buildings were opening with the area, including sidewalks, not clear and safe. Temple pointed out that the town has more manpower this year.
He added that dealing with heavy snow is a multiple step operation. “Typically with a big storm event, when things start to get slick, you start off with your sand/salt operation. Based on the amount of snow you’re getting, you start going into the plow routes that you have.”
He expressed confidence that the town’s plowing, sanding and overall readiness will be able to handle any winter or blizzard conditions.
