CHATHAM – A section of Chatham’s North Beach re-opened Thursday morning to over sand vehicle traffic after being shut down earlier this year due to endangered nesting shorebirds.
Vehicles will be able to drive out from the Inner Trail south to approximately 250 yards south of Trail 6. The open and closed areas will be designated by signage.
This marks the first re-opening of a section of Chatham’s part of Nauset Beach this year. Orleans implemented some openings on their side of the beach in mid-July using their Habitat Conservation Plan, which allows vehicles to be escorted past the nesting shorebirds.
Those restrictions have since been lifted
All dogs must be leashed anywhere on the beach. Town officials say there is a zero tolerance policy for unleashed dogs at this time.
