Child Injured in Car Accident at a Hyannis Elementary School

ER medical symbolHYANNIS – A woman drove a car into a tree at Hyannis East Elementary School Monday afternoon sending a child to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. in the parking area behind the school.

Sgt. Kevin Tynan, of the Barnstable Police Department, said the driver claimed an animal ran in front of the car causing he to swerve into the tree.

Lt. Bob Hennessy, of the Hyannis Fire Department, said there were two children in the car and one of them suffered a cut and was taken to the hospital.

There were no other injuries.

The car sustained extensive front end damage and Tynan said that police could not locate the animal.
