Christine Lawson, 56

Christine “Tina” Lawson, 56, of Barnstable, MA, died peacefully February 28, 2017, with exceptional care at McCarthy House in Sandwich. The daughter of Barbara J. and Thomas W. Lawson, II, of Duxbury, MA, Tina was born September 29, 1960, and grew up in Duxbury. She attended St. Coletta’s School in Hanover and Nathaniel Morton School in Plymouth.

To anyone who knew Tina — but especially her family — Tina will always be known for her infectious smile; her hilarious sense of humor and ability to make people around her laugh; her selflessness and love; and her courage in facing her fears and handicap with courage and perseverance each and every day.

Tina’s favorite times were spent having picnics at Duxbury Beach with her Mother and Nana, singing, dancing and swimming. She loved times spent with family out at Saquish Beach in Plymouth, MA

Tina began her journey toward independence in 1998, when she moved to the Cape as a then Nauset Workshop, now Cape Abilities, group home resident. She found great joy, laughter, and friendship in her new family. As part of Cape Abilities Tina participated in the Workshop, horseback riding, swimming, dance, visits to the Hyannis Library, and sailing. Throughout her life she loved participating in The Special Olympics, especially swimming where she won many medals. In recent years, and even in her final days, her own artistic talent blossomed as she worked with an art therapist.

Tina was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her sisters, Pamela Robertson of Los Altos, CA, and Victoria Lawson of Boulder Creek, CA., a niece and many nephews, many cousins including her guardian and beloved cousin, Susan Butler, of Marstons Mills, MA. She also leaves behind her Cape Abilities family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Osterville, MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Abilities: Cape Abilities, Attn: Nancy Noble, Director of Community Development, 895 Mary Dunn Road, Hyannis MA 02601 or at www.capeabilities.org/donate/.
