Chelsea Clinton Draws Large Crowd at Falmouth Bookstore

Hundreds waited in line for a few hours to get books signed by former first daughter Chelsea Clinton Thursday at Eight Cousins Books on Main Street in Falmouth.

FALMOUTH – Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton brought a massive crowd out to a local book store yesterday in Falmouth.

Clinton appeared at Eight Cousins Books on Main Street to promote and sign copies of her new children’s book “She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World” and “It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!” for tween readers.

Falmouth resident Sarah Adams says the hour and a half wait in line was worth it.

“She’s charming and she’s doing great work and I’m going to pass these books on to my granddaughters and other kids,” Adams said.

Marie Feehan, of Falmouth, and her 2-year-old daughter Andi had been at the store for two hours and were still waiting to get a book signed.

“I just think she is such an amazing role model and now that I have a daughter I wanted her to meet her and get the book signed so that she could have it forever,” Feehan said. “It’s all about women power and role models for our girls.”

The signing also brought visitors from off Cape, including Mary Anne Gassert from Hingham.

“I love taking a ride to the Cape and it was a reason to come for a ride on a great day,” Gassert said. “It was sunny in Falmouth and raining in Hingham.”

Gassert was purchasing the books and getting them signed for her granddaughters.

Store co-owner Sara Hines was excited that their customers were able to experience the event.

“We are definitely seeing a lot of our longtime customers here, a lot of friends, friendly faces, recognizable faces,” Hines said.

Hines said having authors come to local bookstores helps support the small businesses and the community, along with promote reading.

“We appreciate anybody who comes and talks to us and does an event with us,” Hines said. “I think in the publishing industry there is a lot of strong support among authors and booksellers to keep people reading, which is the most important thing, especially a store like ours that really cares about children’s literacy.”

Both books by Clinton are available at Eight Cousins bookstore or at eightcousins.com.
