ORLEANS – It was a close encounter with a great white shark for a stand up paddle boarder Sunday – and he didn’t even know it.

The man was on the board just off Nauset Beach in Orleans and noticed a drone hovering above him.

When he returned to shore, the man was told the drone operator, Cody DeGroff, had captured images of a shark swimming just feet away from him.

The images were posted on Twitter by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

Researchers with the Conservancy also tagged their fifth great white shark of the season Monday off Nauset Beach.

Two other sharks were scene by their spotter plane off Head of the Meadow Beach on Sunday.
