Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to Honor Lost Crew of Aircraft 1432

BOSTON — The crew of Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod is scheduled to hold a memorial on Wednesday to honor the 40th anniversary of the Aircraft 1432 crew who gave their lives during a medevac mission in 1979.

On the night of February 18, 1979, the crew of the HH-3F Pelican responded to a call to remove an injured person from a fishing vessel. While hovering near the vessel, the aircraft experienced a critical power loss, settled into the water, and rolled over.

Both pilots, one crewmember and a corpsman lost their lives in the accident. The flight mechanic survived and was rescued by the fishing vessel.

The memorial service in honor of the crew of Aircract 1432 will be held Air Station Cape Cod, located inside of Joint Base Cape Cod, at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Captain Scott Langum, Captain Michael Hudson and the crews of Air Station Cape Cod and Base Cape Cod will participate in the ceremony.
