ORLEANS – As the weather warms and thoughts turn to boating, it is welcome news that the Coast Guard Auxiliary has announced the dates for a course entitled “Boating Skills and Seamanship”.
The comprehensive five class course will take place on Wednesdays between February 28th and March 28th from 6 to 9 p.m. It is aimed at both new and intermediate power boaters.
The instructors are trained by the Coast Guard and will cover a wide range of topics including required and recommended equipment, navigation, rules of the nautical road, dealing with emergencies, the proper use of electronics, and much more.
The cost of $50 covers all five classes as well as a textbook and other materials.
The auxiliary, which was created in 1939, is a uniformed civilian element of the Coast Guard, and supports them in nearly all of their missions.
The course will be held at the Orleans Fire-Rescue Department.
