BOURNE – A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod airlifted a climber yesterday afternoon from Acadia National Park in Maine.

The Coast Guard was notified around 1:45 p.m. that a hiker fell from an 80-foot cliff.

A rescue team had rappelled down the cliff to provide medical assistance but needed help extracting the victim.

The victim, who suffered arm and leg injuries, was hoisted by the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to a ball field in Bar Harbor to meet an awaiting EMS crew.

He was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor and his condition is not known.

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod operates helicopters and an HC-144A Ocean Sentry fixed-wing airplane and is the only Coast Guard aviation facility in the northeast. They are responsible for the water from New Jersey to the Canadian Border.
