WOODS HOLE – A Coast Guard crew from Station Woods Hole helped tow the 65 foot fishing vessel Leonardo on Wednesday with it became disabled after running aground in Woods Hole Pass.

There were six people on board the ship.

Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received notification around 10:15 p.m. that the Leonardo ran aground and damaged its rudder.

A 45 foot response boat from Station Woods Hole was dispatched and towed the vessel to Buzzards Bay.

A tow company then brought the ship safely to New Bedford around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Our crews acted quickly to tow the Leonardo out of the pass for both the safety of the crew aboard and to ensure safe navigation for other vessels transiting the area,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Shannon Helly.
