BOURNE – Coast Guard crews from Air Station Cape Cod medevaced two people Tuesday morning from Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to the mainland.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew transferred a 17-year-old girl with a head injury to Tufts Medical Center in Boston and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry crew flew a 39-year-old man with heart issues to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
The Coast Guard assistance was required because of icing and poor weather conditions.
“People who need us are not always out on the water,” said Lt. j.g. Nick Peters, one of the helicopter pilots who provided transport. “This was our third medevac in two days from Martha’s Vineyard Hospital because of less than ideal weather conditions. Our job, just like the people who work in the hospital, is to save lives.”
Both patients arrived in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard.
