CHATHAM – A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod will delivered cargo Monday in Chatham to help with the restoration of the Monomoy Lighthouse and keeper’s station.

Starting at 9 a.m. the chopper made several trips between the Hardings Beach east parking lot and South Monomoy Island to transport over 18 tons of construction supplies for the final stage of the restoration.

The cargo lifts serve as a training mission for the Coast Guard and helps the local habitat by preventing over-land means to transport the material.

The goal of the restoration project is to allow Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge staff, other researchers and the public to safely use the keeper’s house.

Construction is scheduled to start in late August.
