EASTHAM – In celebration of the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, there will be an open house at Station Nauset in Eastham this weekend.

Station Nauset was one of the original nine life-saving stations built on Cape Cod in 1872.

Decommissioned in 1948, the building is rarely open to the general public.

“It’s a great chance for the public to come see the old station and learn some more about its history,” said Coast Guard Public Affairs Staff Officer Wes Baden.

Members of the Nauset Flotilla, along with National Seashore personnel will host the open houses on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Auxiliary Flotilla members will be on hand to share information about the missions of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

“The Flotilla personnel who will be there plus the National Seashore personnel are very acquainted with the history of the station and life-saving mission of the Coast Guard here on the Cape,” said Baden.

Visitors can also watch and listen in as amateur radio operators activate a special events radio station.
