BOSTON (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says a search for two missing boaters off the coast of Rhode Island has shifted to the waters south of Long Island, New York.

The Coast Guard was informed Sunday evening that 54-year-old Linda Carmen and her son, 22-year-old Nathan Carmen, failed to return from an offshore fishing trip near Block Island, located about 13 miles south of mainland Rhode Island.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane from Air Station Cape Cod have been taking part in the operation.

The Carmens departed from Point Judith on Saturday evening in a 32-foot aluminum center console boat.

The Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, in Boston, said Monday evening the search was focused on Hudson Canyon, about 115 miles south of Montauk, New York. No further details were released.
