MENEMSHA – The Coast Guard has reported a tow in increasingly unfavorable conditions on the waters.
According to the Coast Guard, the captain of the 50-foot fishing vessel Tamara made a distress call around 8:30 this morning stating his navigation equipment had failed.
The vessel was reportedly 10 miles east of Block Island when the call was made.
Wind gusts of 55 knots had already happened in some areas by this point, with seas in excess of 17 feet.
Two response boats, one from Station Menemsha and one Station Castle Hill in Rhode Island left to escort the fishing vessel back to Newport.
No injuries were reported of either the three-person fishing crew or members of the Coast Guard teams.
