Coastal Storm Causes Power Outages on Cape

NSTAR Outage Map 110214CAPE COD – This weekend’s coastal storm has caused numerous reported power outages across the Cape last night and into this morning.

At about 10:30 this morning, a wet snow began falling in Falmouth. Flooding, down tree limbs and other wind-related damage could be seen along the Cape’s roadways.

According to NSTAR’s outage map, almost 3,400 customers were without power as of 6:15 a.m. But by 10:30 a.m., outages on Cape Cod had increased to about 8,000 NSTAR customers.

The majority of the early outages were in Falmouth, Hyannis and Barnstable.

By 10:30 a.m., Falmouth’s outages had increased from 1,084 reported outages to 1,846. in Hyannis the 1,039 reported outages at 6 a.m. had increased by 10:30 a.m. to 2,148 outages. and in the rest of the town of Barnstable the 722 outages reported earlier in the morning had increased to 1,769 outages.

At 10:30 a.m. NSTAR is reporting 883 outages in Bourne, 695 outages in Sandwich, and 459 outages in Yarmouth. In Mashpee, 3,004 customers were without power. There were scattered small areas of outages in the rest of the Cape.

A high wind warning is in effect until 4 o’clock this afternoon and a coastal flood warning was in effect until 10 a.m.
