WOODS HOLE – A half dozen cold-stunned sea turtles stranded on local beaches last month are recovering at NOAA Fisheries’ Woods Hole Science Aquarium.
The six endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles were transferred to the aquarium on November 29 after they were stabilized at the New England Aquarium’s Animal Care Center in Quincy.
The turtles were rescued by staff members of Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
The turtles will continue rehabilitation in Woods Hole until they regain full health and can be released back into the wild.
They are recovering in a brand-new large holding pool built for this specific purpose. The turtles are receiving fluids and antibiotics, x-rays and have regular blood tests.
The animals are not on public display.
