College Dorm Dedicated to Ice Bucket Challenge Co-Founder

BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) — A small private university in Massachusetts has named its newest residence hall after the man who co-founded the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and inspired millions.

Endicott College officially dedicated Peter Frates Hall during a ceremony held Tuesday on the school’s campus in Beverly.

Frates, a former Boston College baseball team captain and Beverly native, was diagnosed with amytrophic lateral sclerosis in 2012 at the age of 27.

Since his diagnosis, Frates has been busy raising awareness in hopes of finding a cure for the debilitating disease through the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Endicott President Richard Wylie said Frates is a role model and inspiration that he hopes will influence generations of students down the line.

The 225-bed undergraduate residence hall was christened by 1,500 students participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
