EAST FALMOUTH – The Barnstable County Agricultural Society awarded $35,000 in scholarships to 18 local students Thursday night at the Barnstable County Fair.
The money is awarded to qualifying high school seniors and college students on Cape Cod who plan to study in one of several agricultural or marine science curriculums.
The program is designed to preserve and promote agriculture and related fields in Barnstable County and to improve the Cape’s economy through education.
Scholarships are funded through proceeds from Barnstable County Fair ticket sales and vendor fees.
Eligible categories include: Agriculture, Aquaculture, Green Sciences, Turf/Grass Management, Marine Sciences, Equine Sciences, Veterinarian, Family and Consumer Sciences to include Interior Design, Clothing and Textiles, Culinary Arts, Nutrition and Food Preservation, or Management in a related field.
