COMM Fire Captain Chosen for Nantucket Fire Chief Position

Nantucket FireCENTERVILLE – A fire captain with the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire District has been chosen to be the next fire chief on Nantucket.

Captain Paul Rhude has been tapped to replace retiring Chief Mark McDougall, who is retiring after nine years at the position.

“It’s bittersweet in that we lose a competent captain who has been on the department for approximately 16 years, almost 17 years,” said C-O-MM Fire Chief Michael Winn. “But in the same breath, we wish him only the best moving forward.”

Winn said the whole department is proud of Rhude’s efforts to step up and seek a leadership position.

“It requires courage and he’s certainly exhibited that and prevailed in a competitive process for the job,” he said.

Winn commended Rhude’s work while at the C-O-MM Fire District.

“Paul is a go-to guy here at the fire department,” Winn said. “There’s no project too large for Paul to put his arms around and complete.”

Winn also had a quick bit of advice for Rhude at his new position.

“Take the time to listen and understand the lay of the land,” he said.
