Mashpee Commons Seeks More Input This Week

MASHPEE – “Zoning for the Needs of the Future” is the title of the fourth Tuesday Talk presented by Mashpee Commons by Design.

In November and December, they held a series of public visioning workshops for residents and stakeholders to discuss, and put forth suggestions about, the future of the Commons.

Over 300 people with a wide variety of ideas and opinions, attended.

Number four will touch upon the ways other communities have been changing their zoning regulations to create a commercial center in order to keep businesses from being spread  throughout the town.

This allows for more open space, parks, and the preservation of an areas character.

The Commons has garnered national recognition as a leader in mixed use development, having incorporated commercial, residential and public spaces.

Many community events take place throughout the year, including concerts, the Seaside Le Mans auto race and a Christmas Parade.

The talk is scheduled for this Tuesday at the Public Library at 6:00.  It will be preceded by an open house from 5:00 – 6:00, when attendees will be able to review previous feedback and the common themes which have emerged.

The second Tuesday Talk, which was cancelled due to weather conditions, will take place on the 17th.  The topics will be Infrastructure, Public Space and Systems Planning.
