KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials will held a conference today on an apparent safety violation at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth.
The meeting comes in response to an NRC inspection of Pilgrim after it shut down during the January blizzard.
NRC officials say they found a complication with one of the station’s safety valves. Inspectors say plant officials were unable to open one of the plant’s safety relief valves. The NRC found that Entergy could have prevented the violation had it corrected the problem during the plant’s shutdown in February.
The safety violation has been classified as “white,” or low to moderate significance.
Today’s meeting comes after Entergy requested the conference. The company will have an opportunity to respond to issues raised during the inspection. No punishments or any decisions on violations will be made today. NRC officials will make those decisions at a later time
The meeting takes place at 1 pm at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s region one offices in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
