BOSTON – Eight of the state’s conservation districts have received a portion of $250,000 in grants.
The districts are non-profit groups who are dedicated to the conservation and protection of localized natural resources. They work with agencies at the municipal, state and federal levels.
The funds allocated include $42,000 to Cape Cod, $26,000 for Dukes County and $42,000 for Plymouth County.
Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito said that the grants help protect water, land and air in the Commonwealth’s thirteen districts now and for the future.
On the Cape, the money will be used to establish and maintain an up-to-date, prioritized inventory of Cape-wide coastal resource restoration projects. The inventory will help manager plan projects, maximize project benefits and serve as the basis securing technical and financial assistance.
On Martha’s Vineyard, the money will be used to evaluate and take steps to reduce the impact of all farming activities within the watershed of the Tisbury Great Pond, particularly from nitrogen loading that has been identified as a problem by the Massachusetts Estuaries Project.
In Plymouth, the funding will coordinate a comprehensive program to tackle the critical need for increased efforts to address water quality and quantity.
