Renovations Begin for New Health Facility in Harwich Port

HARWICH PORT – The expansion of Outer Cape Health Services footprint in Harwich Port is getting closer as construction crews have begun renovations of the old Thompson’s Market building on Route 28.

Delphi Construction started conversion of the two-story building, which will house 18 exam rooms, a pharmacy, lab drawing facilities, a community wellness space and administrative offices.

“We’re excited. It becomes real when they put the fence up around the building and brought in the dumpsters and now everyone who [works] on the second floor can hear all the noise in the bottom but no one is complaining because this is progress,” said Patricia Nadle, the CEO of Outer Cape Health Services.

Tom Howes, the director of business development for Delphi Construction, said crews will be working on all the fit out and exterior renovations to put in new windows for exam rooms in the front.

“We’re doing some extensive flood proofing to make sure that long-term the building works for its location and its proximity to the harbor,” Howes said.

Howes said Delphi crews started working at the site about a month ago.

“Our construction schedule has us finishing I think just around the first of November,” he said.

The community health center, which has locations in Provincetown and Wellfleet on the Outer Cape, currently operates a small five-room facility on Chatham Road in Harwich.

When renovations of the new location are completed, the facility will have three-times the space to treat patients.

“This will be a great Lower Cape opportunity for folks who have been waiting to see providers and again we will have a lot on site so that it will be in many cases one stop which will be great for folks,” Nadle said.
