Construction Set to Begin on New Stairs at Nauset Light Beach

KA_Eastham_Nauset Light Stair Damage_Below_Beach Level_Sun_Coast Guard Beach_021916_037EASTHAM – Construction to replace the staircase at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham gets underway Wednesday.

The structure was damaged once again from severe winter weather.

The Cape Cod National Seashore expects the work to be completed in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The park is talking with consultants about the possibility of developing removable stairs that can be taken down in the winter and reinstalled each spring as damage is becoming an annual occurrence.

The current bathhouse at Nauset Light Beach will also be removed after the summer season due to the ongoing erosion of the bluff. Plans for a future bathhouse are being developed and the National Seashore has requested funding for the project from the National Park Service.
