SANDWICH – The Army Corps of Engineers has announced more construction work in the canal region.
Public access to the Sandwich Recreation Area and the Cape Cod Canal’s south service road will be limited at times between now and early May due to construction activities near the Sandwich Marina.
Crews will be offloading large pieces of equipment from barges and crews will have to bring the materials across the service road near the marina. Officials say they will limit access to the area at times to ensure the safety of the visiting public.
The barge deliveries are planned from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the access path could be closed or limited during 30-minute periods of time.
Access to the area will be allowed via the path from the canal service road to the Sandwich Harbormaster’s Office.
