Contractor Chosen for Brewster Fire Station

BREWSTER – Delphi Construction of Mashpee and Waltham has been hired as the contractor for Brewster’s new fire station project.

The company submitted the lowest bid at $9.9 million. Voters approved a $13.4 million debt exclusion a year ago, and the town had planned to spend over $10 million on the contractor.

The planned 22,000 square foot facility will feature 5 bays and allow for all of the station’s apparatuses to be present under one roof. Brewster Fire Chief Robert Moran said that’s a first for his team.

“We’ve never had one central location for our equipment,” he said. “We have been using the old Water Department building for many of our rescue vehicles which puts us in a bind sometimes for our response times.”

The new station will have two floors and will feature a training station, operations area, dormitories, a kitchen, and fitness area.

Regarding the latter, Moran noted that a significant portion of firefighter deaths in the nation can be attributed to stress and heart attacks. He said it was important, therefore, to include a fitness center in designs.

Construction is slated to begin following the demolition of the existing Main Street structure in January.
